Children’s books help to unlock the magic in life. Through colorful illustrations, creative plot lines and precious moments, children’s authors help to nourish the inner bookworm in readers of all ages! In the list below, I have compiled some of our family’s favorite books that are suitable readers across the generations. Grab a family member, take a seat, and enjoy the warm fuzzies that come from reading a good book together. Happy Reading!
1. Old Mother West Wind- Written by Thorton Burgess

This collection of short stories are all intertwined around a collection of forest animals like: Reddy Fox, Johnny Woodchuck and Jimmy Skunk. Chapters are only 2-3 pages which makes for a great bedtime story or a short read.
2. Inky’s Amazing Escape- Written by Sy Montgomery

Inky is an Octopus on an amazing journey that brings him to an aquarium and then back to the ocean. This book is filled with facts about sea life and how an Octopus lives in the open ocean. Bonus: there are fun Octopus Facts in the appendix along with more resources if your young bookworm is interested in learning more!
3. The BFG- Written by Roald Dahl

Meet Sophie, a young girl who is inquisitive and brilliant. One night she is taken from her bed in the middle of the night by The Big Friendly Giant. He takes her to the land of the giants where she learns all about dreams, new foods like snozzcumbers and friendship. Please note: this is a chapter book for older children as the chapters are a little bit longer and content is made for older children.
4. Hairy Maclary and Zachary Quack- Written by Lynley Dodd.

This book is an adorable story about a dog and a duckling and their interactions. It is full of descriptive language and onomatopoeia that makes it fun for adults to read and children to listen to!
5. Madeline- Written by Ludwig Bemelmans

This classic award winning book is another staple in our home. Madeline is a feisty little girl who lives in France. She is always ready for an adventure and never afraid.
6. Pete the Cat: Pete at the Beach- Written by James Dean

Pete the Cat is at the beach for the day and not sure about the ocean. However, after enjoying the land activities, he takes the plunge and gives surfing a try! Lesson learned: it is cool to try new things.
7. Frog and Toad All Year- Written by Arnold Lobel

This is a collection of short stories all about the adventures of two friends, Frog and Toad. These two adorable characters are funny and charming. Our little bookworms’ favorite story in this book is “Ice Cream.” Recommendation: They have a larger storybook treasury on Amazon for those readers who want to read more stories about Frog and Toad!
8. The Berenstain Bears’ Sleepover

In this story, Brother and Sister bear enjoy their first sleepover. Filled with games and a little mischief, Mama and Papa Bear don’t know if they’ll ever go to sleep! Recommendation: This book is part of an extremely large series, so if your bookworm likes it there are plenty of individual stories to choose from!
9. Henry and Mudge- Written by Cynthia Rylant

This captivating story is all about a boy and his dog. Their adventures together have just started but the pair will capture your heart in no time! This is another series with more stories available to choose from.
10. Don’t Push the Button- Written by Bill Cotter

This fun book takes the reader on an adventure of what happens when you push the button. Get ready to move and shake with the main character Larry!
