“The Gilded Wolves” is a fantasy adventure tale written by Roshani Chokshi. The story is set in Paris in 1889 and follows the story of group of misfits that band together to recover a lost artifact. Séverin is leader of the group who takes the outsiders on their quest that includes mythological creatures and objects. The stakes are high because Séverin is on his own personal journey to restore his stolen inheritance. The dynamic group includes a friend, an engineer, a dancer and a historian. As the story unfolds, the characters are put to the test and will need to work together in order to find the lost item.
Overall, this book was simply enthralling . The story is told from different points of view, so the reader is able to get to know each of the characters in a more intimate way. Their inner thoughts, feelings and points of view help to develop the story and enable the reader to truly become invested in the events.
The first few pages contained a lot of information and background which seemed to move a little slower for me personally. However, after a few chapters I was fully immersed in the story and constantly pondering what would happen next with these beloved characters. No spoilers here, but the last chapter left me on the edge of my seat and eagerly anticipating a sequel!
Recommendation: If you liked the movies “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Ocean’s Eleven” than this book might be exactly what you need. It features an epic heist while introducing a host of spunky and endearing characters!
