This book y’all!
Author Lily Cameron has taken her Zero-Waste lifestyle and translated it into an easy to follow guidebook for people interested in lowering their plastic consumption and doing their part to keep our planet healthy. The book offers distinct sections geared towards specific areas of daily life like the kitchen, cleaning and bathroom. Each section is filled with tips, recipes and tons of ideas for all commitment levels.
Let’s have a tough discussion here. Living a sustainable lifestyle is a first world problem that leaves behind people that are struggling economically. However, people that hail from traditionally lower income areas are the ones that are hit the hardest when it comes to environmental issues.
This book hits on that troubling topic and doesn’t shy away from the author’s self-acknowledged level of privilege. Her discussion on the topic is written in an honest and eye opening way that will encourage readers to make changes in their own lives while simultaneously finding ways to support the needs of others around them. This transparent discussion was refreshing and unique to this book. While some sustainability efforts are geared towards certain groups of people, this book is more likely to positively impact readers on a broad scale as well as encourage people to assist their fellow community members.
The author also takes a new stance that sustainability is a continuum and should be viewed as such. Gone is the mentality that sustainability is an “all or nothing” concept. Rather, Author Cameron presents an approach that is gentle, supportive and tiered. Readers can choose how sustainability fits into their daily life and can apply the methods how they see fit. There is no judgement, there are no rules, instead there is just a book that will stand to support those searching for a environmentally friendly path forward.
Recommendation: This book was fabulous and would be a great fit for anyone interested in living a more sustainable lifestyle!
